Jazz in the Park 2010 to feature performances by Nick Colionne, Bethany Pickens and Corey Wilkes
A message from State Representative Al Riley
It
is my pleasure to once again host Jazz in the Park for Charity on
Sunday, August 8, at Bicentennial Park in Olympia Fields.
As you may know, Jazz in the Park for
Charity was developed to benefit not-for-profit organizations in the
south suburban area. What started years ago in the backyard of two
community leaders is now a summertime destination point
event for the Southland region.
This year, world
renowned recording artists who will grace the Jazz in the Park for
Charity 2010 stage include pianist Bethany Pickens. trumpeter
Corey Wilkes and guitarist, Nick Colionne. This is the second
consecutive year that Colionne will perform at Jazz in the Park for
Charity. This year is the first for former south suburbanite Wilkes
and Pickens, the virtuoso daughter of the legendary Willie Pickens.
I assumed sponsorship of this event
in 2008 for a number of reasons. First of which was the unique,
signature premise of the event; to financially benefit and publicize
the work of invaluable nonprofit agencies benefiting the Southland
region. The second was to showcase the beauty and culture of our area
to residents and people across Chicagoland coupled with signature jazz
talent in a tranquil setting. In 2009, we accomplished that and more
as Jazz in the Park for Charity 2009 received acclaim from around
Chicago and the entire state of Illinois.
